Texture matching is the process of reproducing an existing wall or ceiling texture across a repair so the patched area reads as part of the original surface. Paragon Drywall matches knockdown, orange peel, stipple, popcorn, and hand applied finishes for renovations, repairs, additions, and insurance work. We test the match on a sample board before we touch the wall, so the first pass on your surface is the right one.

The details

Texture matching questions, answered

How close can a texture match actually get?

On a spray applied texture like knockdown or orange peel, a good match is invisible once painted. Hand applied and older textures are harder because the original applicator had a personal pattern, but a feathered blend across a wide area makes the transition read as normal variation rather than a patch. We show you the sample board before committing.

Why does a patch still show after painting?

Usually one of three reasons. The texture aggregate or spray pressure did not match, so the pattern sits at a different scale. The blend stopped at the patch edge instead of feathering out. Or the repair was painted without primer, so the new compound absorbs differently and flashes under light. We address all three as standard.

Do you match texture on ceilings as well as walls?

Yes, and ceilings are the harder case because raking light from windows and fixtures shows every inconsistency. Ceiling matches get a wider blend area and a Level 5 base under the texture where the lighting demands it.

Questions

Texture matching FAQ

Knockdown, orange peel, splatter, stipple, sand swirl, skip trowel, popcorn, and custom hand applied finishes. If it was put on a wall or ceiling in the Lower Mainland in the last fifty years, we have matched it.

We read the original for aggregate size, pattern density, and how it was applied, then reproduce it on a sample board with the compound thinned and the spray set to suit. Once the board matches, the same settings go on the wall and the texture is feathered out past the repair.

Yes, but textured ceilings applied before 1990 need hazardous material testing before anyone disturbs them, and that testing is arranged by the owner or general contractor. Once the ceiling is cleared, we match and blend the texture as normal.

New texture and compound absorb paint differently from an aged painted surface, so a spot paint over a repair will usually flash even when the texture matches perfectly. Painting corner to corner on the affected plane gives the best result. We leave the surface primed and ready.

Yes. Texture work is spray applied and creates overspray, so we seal the work area with dust barriers, tarp floors and fixtures, and clean at the end of every shift. After hours and weekend scheduling is available for clinics, retail, and tenanted offices.
