The details

Drywall installation questions, answered

What thickness of drywall is used in commercial buildings?

Most commercial walls use 5/8 inch Type X board for its fire rating, while 1/2 inch is common on ceilings and non rated partitions. Wet areas take moisture resistant board, and high traffic walls take abuse resistant board. We match the board type to the assembly rating and the room's use.

What is the difference between Level 4 and Level 5 finishes?

Level 4 leaves a smooth finish over tape and fasteners and suits most commercial walls under flat or eggshell paint. Level 5 adds a thin skim coat across the surface so it stays flat under bright or raking light. We finish each wall to the level its lighting and paint sheen require.

Do you hang and finish fire rated and sound rated walls?

Yes. We board 1 hour and 2 hour fire rated assemblies and STC rated partitions using listed details, with the correct board, screw pattern, and layer count. Each assembly is left inspection ready with documentation for the general contractor and the inspector.

Questions

Drywall installation FAQ

Drywall, also called gypsum board or plasterboard, is a panel of gypsum core pressed between two layers of paper. It is fire resistant, quick to install, and gives a smooth surface for paint or wallpaper, which is why it is the standard for commercial walls and ceilings.

Standard sheets are 4 feet wide in 8, 10, and 12 foot lengths, in 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch thickness. Longer sheets cut down on butt joints, which gives a flatter wall. We pick the sheet size that suits the wall height and reduces seams.

Yes. Pristine Drywall handles steel stud framing, insulation, vapour barrier, boarding, taping, and finishing in one contract, so a single accountable crew takes the wall from layout to a paint ready surface.

Timeline depends on square footage, ceiling height, and assembly ratings. After the site walk we give a written schedule with your estimate, then crews scale to hold the general contractor's dates.

Yes. We board ceilings, bulkheads, soffits, and feature details along with walls, fastened to code and finished to the level the lighting condition calls for.
